Primary Network Components
Even
though the networks are large complex systems, the primary network
components can be group into three main forms. The core network
components that are used to connect the computers around the world to
make up an network are Servers, Clients or workstations and
Resources.
Servers
Servers
form the core component of the network by establishing a proper link
to all the resources in the network. The type of resources linked to
the servers could exist in either at the server side or client side.
Servers act as a centralized control of all the resources and
security access.
Clients
or Workstations
The
computers
that are used by the users to perform tasks such as word
processing, database design, graphic design, e-mail and many other
activities are called workstations. They are also known as client
computers where they have access to communicate with the servers to
request for the resources. Client computers are primary network
components that makes use of the services provided by the servers.
Network
Resources
The
important resources that are available in the internet are printing
resources, storage devices, applications and peripherals. The
resources in the network can be used by both client and server
machines for accomplishing tasks and to store and retrieve data.
