Expansion Slots

        Expansion Slots are slots used for installing various hardware devices for expanding the performance and capabilities of the computer. There are several types of expansion slots used in computers. They are,

PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect)

        Three inches long slot used for adding modem cards, sound cards, old video cards etc

AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port)

        Slot for video cards and high speed graphic cards which allows throughput of 23 MBPS over 4 byte channel.

PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express)

        New slot to replace PCI and AGP

AMR (Audio Modem Riser)

        46 pin slot developed to reduce the slowdown of motherboard by FCC certification

CNR (Communications and Networking Riser)

        60 pin slots which is a replacement for AMR Slot
