                       WIM (Windows Imaging Files) are the installation files stored by the Windows 7 operating system. Making changes to this WIM files will enable you to maintain your customized setting whenever installing a fresh copy of it. WIM files are the file format used to deploy operating systems such as Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista.




    The traditional installation images are sector based images where you cannot modify once it is created. But the WIM files are not sector based, they are file based. And unlike other installation images, WIM images are hardware independent. This allows you to customize the install image and install it anywhere you want. The changes made will save you from customizing every time you install an operating system.   

Install Updates and Drivers to installation file

    You can install latest updates and add drivers to your customized installation file where the installation can be used across all the system with similar hardware configuration. Imagine an organization where 500 brand new computers were purchased with similar hardware configuration. Every computer needs Windows 7 operating system, device driver software and updates needs to be installed.
