What is ASP.NET?

 

ASP.NET is a framework was introduced in the year 2002 and it is mainly used for developing server side web applications and dynamic web pages effectively. ASP.net is a part of .NET framework which is developed by one of the leading software development firms, Microsoft Corporation. ASP.net helps the software programmers in building dynamic web services, dynamic web applications and dynamic web sites.

Web applications developed using the ASP.NET framework would run in web browsers. In order to run the web applications in web browsers, thus the web applications are created with URL and hosted in the server.

The traditional ASP which is used before the introduction of ASP.NET are also used for creating web based applications. The major diffferences between the ASP and ASP.NET is that the ASP is created with the help of JavaScript and VB Script. Whereas ASP.NET appications can be created using C#, J#, VB etc. ASP applications are interpreted and ASP.NET applications can be compiled effectively with the help of MSIL to achieve platform independence.
